Health Clubs

Health Clubs are basically gyms, but whereas for some people a gym conjures up images of a room full of muscled men and women pumping iron to loud music, a health club sounds more appealing.

A no-frills gym might be just what you're looking for, if you want to build muscle and get stronger and are not bothered about additional facilities. You might want to go to the gym to be social and half heartedly attempt the exercises. Alternatively, you might go because you want to get fit, lose weight or train for a sporting event.

Your fitness aims should be taken into account when you join a health club or gym. You might want to tone up, lose weight or just improve your current sporting fitness levels or times. The instructors will be able to advise and show you what sort of exercises you will need to do.

Somebody wanting to be faster on the football pitch will be doing different exercises to somebody wanting to lose weight, or tone up after having a baby.

Swimming can be a great way to get fit again, and if you're not keen on sharing the pool with kids, then a health club pool could the ideal place for you to build up your fitness levels.

Fitness classes are also a good way to try something different, and a way to meet new people. Perhaps you have never fancied aerobics, but spinning, water fitness classes, or boxercise really appeals to you. Why not see if your health club offers additional exercise classes?

A personal trainer can make a big difference to whether you reach your exercise and weight loss goals. You trainer will help to keep you motivated, and set you tasks and goals so that you don't get stuck in a rut. You might also have bad days and feel like giving up, but your trainer will be able to help you overcome these times, and get you back on track.

Children's fitness classes are available at some health clubs, so you can be sure that your kids are getting enough exercise, even if the weather is bad and they can't play outside. Maybe you'll take them swimming, or perhaps there'll be dedicated kids classes where they can do the same sort of fitness classes that you do.

If you're looking to get fit, or get back into shape or lose weight, why not see what your local health club can offer you?
